There is promising evidence to show that mindfulness training enhances executive function, which is often impaired in autistic spectrum disorder (ASD), and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). Studies have shown that mindfulness training enhances the key components of executive function, such as planning, working memory, attention, problem solving, verbal reasoning, inhibition, cognitive flexibility, and initiation of actions and the monitoring of actions.
Many argue that the most important prerequisites for child development are executive function control (the management of cognitive processes such as memory, problem solving, reasoning, and planning) and emotional regulation (the ability to understand and manage emotions, including and especially impulse control. These main contributors to self-regulation underpin emotional wellbeing, effective learning, and academic attainment.
With a passion for inclusivity, and working clinically with adults and children with autism for the past 15-years I went on to adated the My Mind And Me programme for children with ASD. The programme has been delivered within mainstream and National Autistic Society schools, working one-2-one, with groups, parents and teachers.
In addition, I went on to develop the programme further, adapting it for adults with learning difficulties and delivering it within Salford NHS Learning Disability Trust.
I offer one-2-one, and small group work. I work with children, parents, and teachers. Working within mainstream and SEN, NHS services, local authority services, and charity organisations.
My daughter does not like change, everything must be familiar and structured. If not this causes her extreme distress. We had to leave early for school and her distress started to build. I did the Stop-Gap-Go practice with her and she immediatelty engaged with it and it calm both of us down.

My son has been on high levels of medication to still his compulsive fear of being alone. His taking part in this programme has developed greater self-awareness for him. We practice the Stop-Gap-Go technique and he is able to regulate his emotions better. His medication has not significantly reduced.

Over the years I have been on over 50 different parenting courses, and I have never experienced what I have experienced on this one. It has been life changeing for myself and my son who has difficulties connecting with people. He connected really well with Geraldine which has given him greater confidence.

This has been an excellent course and I can see how I can use it in all aspects of my life. I am less reactive and more able to see different perspectives and make better choices. The Stop, Gap, Go practice has been hugely beneficial to ground and support me when I notice negative thoughts patterns returning. Thank you so much Geraldine.

In today's fast-paced world, children are constantly exposed to a plethora of stimuli, leading to sensory overload and attention issues. This is difficult for all children but for children within the ASD spectrum this is exacerbated.
The constant bombardment of information and distractions from screens, social media, and the rapid pace of life can overwhelm developing brains making it extremely difficult to navigate the noise resulting in sensory overload which can manifest in various ways, including:
Anxiety and stress: When children are constantly overstimulated, their nervous systems become overwhelmed, leading to feelings of anxiety and stress.
Attention problems: The constant influx of distractions can make it difficult for children to focus and concentrate on a single task. This can impact their learning and academic performance.
Irritability and emotional dysregulation: Sensory overload can make children irritable, moody, and prone to emotional outbursts. They may struggle to regulate their emotions and respond in ways they later regret.
Sleep problems: Difficulty sleeping is often associated with sensory overload and anxiety. The constant stimulation can interfere with their ability to relax and wind down before bed.
Behavioral distress: In some children, sensory overload can manifest as behavioral problems like aggression, impulsivity, and hyperactivity.
I found the help and tools I needed at a very difficult period in my life. Geraldine is very approachable and her depth of knowledge is extensive. I highly recommend this mindfulness training course.
